Beneficiary Designations

Make a Gift in a Few Easy Steps

With many assets, you can name beneficiaries without having to update your will or living trust. A beneficiary designation provides increased flexibility with accounts such as:

  • IRAs, 401(k)s and other retirement plans
  • Life insurance policies
  • Donor advised funds
  • Commercial annuities
  • Bank or brokerage accounts

It is very simple to name World Food Program USA as a beneficiary. Start by requesting a change-of-beneficiary form from your policy administrator or download the form from your provider's website. Make your desired changes and return the form to establish your gift.

You maintain full control of the policy or account during your lifetime, knowing that the remainder will impact people in need in the future.

Some assets, such as retirement plans, can be heavily taxed when passed to heirs other than a spouse. Therefore, they can be excellent gifts for WFP USA. As a charitable organization, we do not pay taxes on your gift, allowing the full amount to be put toward our mission, as described in the example below.

An Example of How It Works

Happy family Robert and Carol treasure the financial help they've been able to give their children and WFP USA over the years. The couple recently updated their will to leave stocks and real estate to their kids. They left WFP USA a $75,000 IRA to be transferred following their lifetime. Because WFP USA is tax-exempt, all $75,000 will help support our mission.

If Robert and Carol had left the IRA to their children, approximately $18,000* would have gone to pay federal income taxes—leaving only $57,000 for their family's use. Robert and Carol are happy knowing they are making the most of their hard-earned money thanks to their updated estate plan.
